The coconut. It’s not just delicious. Coconut oil and coconut water offer a plethora of benefits, making this humble “nut” one of Spa Director Stephanie Baxter’s favorite beauty secrets. The best part? It keeps you both healthy and gorgeous, from the inside out.
COCONUT OIL Why we love it: Promotes heart health, a strong immune system and proper functioning of the thyroid gland.
This luxurious oil continues to impress. Coconut oil has long been known as a beauty secret in many parts of the world. Finally, it is claiming its due respect here in the states. In addition to the many health benefits, coconut oil is a wonderful natural conditioner for your hair, as well as your skin, especially during winter. It is also one of the best oils to cook with due to its stability in high heat. Why cook with it? Coconut oil contains the second most abundant source of lauric acid found in nature (mother’s milk is the first), which helps the body combat sickness.
COCONUT WATER Why we love it: All natural, super hydrating, cholesterol free, nutrient packed, potassium and electrolyte stacked.
Coconut water is rich in natural vitamins (especially B), minerals and trace elements, including zinc, selenium, iodine, sulfur and manganese. Why is this important? Vitamins are necessary for the enzymatic reactions your cells need in order to function. It is also full of amino acids, organic acids, enzymes, antioxidants and phytonutrients. Even better, it is light, low calorie, and nearly fat free, as well as low in sugar (about 1/5 of the sugar of other fruit juices) and contains a little fiber to moderate absorption. Amazingly enough, the list doesn’t end there! It is rich in cytokinins, or plant hormones, which have anti-aging and anti-cancer effects on humans.
